Since 2019, a research facility has been connected to the our combined heat and power (CHP) plant i Värtan. The tests carried out in the plant, together with studies, provided sufficiently robust results to form the basis for Stockholm Exergi to invest in a large-scale facility that is currently being built and is planned to be in full operation by late December 2028.

Since the carbon capture technology is proven, the operation of the research facility is about evaluating and adapting the bio-CCS technology for the Värtan CHP plant. A large number of tests are carried out, in-house as well as in cooperation with the Swedish Royal Institute of Technology (Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan, KTH).
