According to a public notification on 22 April 2025 in the Official Journal of the European Union states an appeal has been lodged against the European Commission approval of the Swedish state aid system for BECCS, by a Hungarian company, Danube CCS Ventures Kft. The appeal challenges the European Commission’s approval of the Swedish state aid regime, which our Beccs Stockholm project is a beneficiary of.
The legal and factual grounds for the appeal are not yet public, apart from a brief summary.
Generally, the lodging of an appeal has no suspensive effect on the European Commission’s decision or the Swedish state regulation. Consequently, Danube’s appeal has no immediate impact on the implementation of the Swedish aid scheme. We will follow the development of the case.
